The basic lesson plan has remained the same, since we're focusing on becoming proficient in a few certain applications. But the overall possibilities are many and ever-changing. Plus, create digital products like these give students practice in a variety of vital areas, such as:
+word processing
+general computer skills
+graphic design
+ the writing process
+cooperative learning and teamwork
+problem solving
to name just a few. Take a look for yourself!
These below are a few examples of the Winter Holidays-themed brochures students created using Pages or Word. They had to include words built from the roots "mit/miss." They also needed to include some of the various English idioms we'd studied previously. See if you can pick them out!
These next few examples are from our "Egypt Top 10" project. Students were to select 10 intriguing or important things they've learned from our study of ancient Egypt. These originally were created with PowerPoint, Keynote, or as Word docs.
However, due to display abilities online, and to make them accessible to everyone, no matter what apps they have, they have been converted into different formats as needed. You'll get the basic idea, but I apologize for the fact that some of the "coolest" animations and features in the projects may get lost in translation. I am still working on my own tech skills, obviously; that's the beauty of being a life-long learner. One of these days . . .
The document below described what these two students felt were interesting or important things to know about life in ancient Egypt. Unfortunately, the cool background graphic, which looks like a woven papyrus mat, didn't come out in the online document. But, you still get the overall idea.
Shirley and Jacky used Keynote to create their Egypt Top 10 project. It's displayed here as a photo slide show, due to technical difficulties in displaying it in its original format (or even as a movie; one day I'll get the hang of it!)
This movie was originally a PowerPoint slideshow, with a lot of great animations. As a movie, it's still interesting and informative. Click on the file to open it, and pause it between slides (otherwise, it moves pretty fast; sorry!)
