CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2012-13 MOFFITT ACADEMIC PENTATHLON TEAM!
Our intrepid Mustangs took home a 6th place medal (and a nice plaque!) for their performance in the Science Super Quiz event in this year's competition. Several Mustangs also earned individual medals in the various subjects. For more info, check the 2012-13 Pentathlon page under the "What's Happening" section. Pictures and details will be there soon.
Moffitt's 2012-2013 Academic Pentathlon Team!
Congratulations to our dedicated 6th Grade Mustangs! They put in a lot of work, and on Saturday, April 27, 2013, they put their knowledge to the test in the annual Academic Pentathlon competition.
This year, the event was held at La Quinta High School in Westminster, CA. The Pentathletes competed in Math, Science (Energy in the Earth's Systems), Social Studies (ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia), Literature (The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain), and Essay.
We will know more about how they did, and the awards they won, in the next few weeks. We'll keep you posted!
THANKS SO MUCH TO ALL THE PARENTS AND FAMILY OF THE PENTATHLETES, FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND FOR ALLOWING YOUR CHILDREN TO PARTICIPATE. NO MATTER THE RESULTS FROM THE COMPETITION, THE RESULTS THEIR INVOLVEMENT WILL HAVE ON THEIR LIVES WILL BE PRICELESS AND IMMEASURABLE.

Field Trip:
La Mirada Symphony Orchestra's
"Celebration of Nature" Concert
The 5th and 6th grade Mustangs were treated to a spectacular concert by the La Mirada Symphony. The theme of the performance was "Celebration of Nature."
Compositions included:
It was a great opportunity for the students to see excellent musicians in action, especially since all 5th and 6th grade Mustangs are musicians themselves! Most of them got to see their chosen instruments being played with great skill and passion. There was also a percussion section, for the 5th graders to focus on! We also were treated to a special piano performance by a local high school student, Emily Wang.
Compositions included:
- "Hornpipe", from Water Music, by George Frideric Handel, written for King George of England as boat party music
- The Moldau, by Bedrich Smetana, written about the river that runs through Prague, in the Czech Republic
- "Autumn" from The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi (one of my personal favorites). You can picture the falling leaves!
- "On the Trail" from Grand Canyon Suite by Ferde Grofe; about the burro rides up and down the Grand Canyon
- Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Claude DeBussey. The title says it all, really.
- The Pines of Rome by Ottorino Respighi, written about the ancient trees that line the roads of that ancient city
