Trimester 1:
Student Project Examples
OMG! I cannot believe we've come to the end of the first trimester already! Time flies when you're having fun and learning a lot, I guess. Here are some samples of the sorts of technology-based work and learning we've been doing so far this year.
But these only show the tip of the iceberg. We've been using tech every day, in every aspect and subject area. For instance:
More great work will be posted soon. Keep checking back to see what's new!
Note: some of the work has been slightly edited for spelling and conventions
But these only show the tip of the iceberg. We've been using tech every day, in every aspect and subject area. For instance:
- each time we've had a holiday (Halloween, Veterans Day) or time of special significance (9/11), we've done in-depth research into these important events.
- In Social Studies, we have used online resources to supplement our knowledge and learning. Students have learned about human origins, the Neolithic and Agricultural Revolution, Otzi (the famous "Ice Man"), and the Fertile Crescent and Mesopotamia, in ways and depths they never could have through our text books alone.
- Students have written their own "spooky stories" using Pages or Word
- Students us the iPads and desktops during Independent Reading time, to practice their reading and fluency skills, using gthe various apps and e-books and e-mags available. They're also starting to type and email their weekly Reader Response letters to me!
- etc., etc., etc.

Here's an example of a PowerPoint presentation, with a Halloween theme. Students used this common software to showcase their new knowledge of Greek and Latin roots (ped/man/spec/dict), and their new software skills.
Below is the basic lesson plan idea for using vocabulary learning in technology-based activities
